Calvin Coolidge first assumed the role of the President of the United States on August 23rd, 1923 at 2:30am when he was notified of the death of then President Warren G. Harding while at his father's home in Plymouth Notch, Vermont. Coolidge's father, a notary public, immediately administered the oath of office by the light of a kerosene lamp.

Coolidge gained great popularity and was swiftly elected in 1924.

After leaving office in 1929 and subsquently public life in 1930, he and his wife, Grace, took an extended vacation in what he considered a relaxing and beautiful environment, Lakeside Inn in Mount Dora, Florida. Their stay extended from January 11th to February 13th, 1930 in rooms 135-137 which is now known appropriately as The Coolidge Room.

Lakeside Inn commemorates this distinquished guest with a dedication of two original Coolidge letters written on Lakside Inn stationary to the Mount Dora Public Library and presenting renowned Coolidge historian, author and solo actor Jim Cooke. His uncanny portrayal of Coolidge will make you believe you're talking to Coolidge himself. Jim Cooke's "Calvin Coolidge" will be making formal and informal appearances in the Mount Dora Area between January 25 & Feb 13. (schedule of appearances on the right) In addition to entertaining audiences and educating Mount Dorans about their most distiguished visitor ever, Jim Cooke will be collecting material for a well-illustrated and researched monograph amassing all the available details of the Coolidge's month-long vacation in Mount Dora.  The working title of the monograph is:  "Lakeside Inn & Mount Dora: Coolidge Did More Than Just Sleep Here". You can learn more about Jim Cooke at www.CrankyYankees.net
